I get questions all the time about making a website Web 2.0 compliant.  What are the differences between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?  How can my site be Web 2.0 compliant?

Understanding Google is a huge key to understanding Web 2.0.

Google is a forever changing platform with many diverse applications.  It helps consumers and potential clients find a website based on crawl ability.  It doesn't come with new releases, it just changes.  the old way of defining oneself on the web has become almost obsolete.

Ways to Help your site become noticed:

Update your content.

It is important that users have something fresh to look at when they visit your site.  It's part of what keeps them coming back.

Eye candy.

I often get the argument that flash isn't 'spiderable'.  But it is catchy and fresh and aids in content.  It has to be just the right mixture of flash and content to direct the reader's eye to portions of a page that you want to focus on.

Google Mapping.

This will help you find out whether or not Google can crawl your site and how many problems it has doing so.  It also tells you what pages are outdated or don't exist, so that you can go about fixing broken links and removing unnecessary content.

Broken Links are a huge No No!

Make sure on a regular basis that all of your links and buttons go where they say they go.  Make sure that the HOME button takes you home.

Always remember that a website cannot be left unattended.  If you have people registering and are allowed to post, please check the content yourself.  Make sure that your potential readers have nice clean content.  Even if the words aren't nasty, the meaning still could be.  And don't forget hackers.  Always make sure that your securty is up to date.
